Every year a truly magical evening takes place in the foothills of the Rocky Mountains.  The Spruce Meadows Masters (Calgary, Alberta) hosts the Evening of the Horse on the Friday night of the Masters.  This event has been growing each year with its unique twist to traditional show jumping, and attracts crowds by celebrating the horse in general.

I teach my students about being prepared before entering the show ring; this is not an example of that.

Just a few weeks before competition I was asked to be the rider for a young stallion in the Spruce Meadows “Battle of the Breeds”.  I said yes and began to prepare.  The problem was that I had to leave for a horse show with my mare Ladiana and gelding Little Leader for two weeks.

Spruce Meadows – The Masters 2010

This week I attended the Spruce Meadows’ Masters Show.  As usual the calibre of riding was incredible – world class riders and horses.  Here’s pictures of Eric Lamaze competing in one of the classes early in the week.
