Dream Horses!

Any kid who loves horses will agree that the best gift they could receive would be, well a HORSE! I was very lucky this past year to see two of my students purchase their dream horses.

Lets start with Rigley and Reagan, if you look back in the category of “Riding in Europe” you will find stories of Rigley. Let me tell you he is one special horse and I owe him a lot. Rigley gave me much needed confidence moving up in height, he was that horse that you never had to question or doubt. I think I can count his refusals with one hand. When my student was looking to move to the horse world from her pony, only one guy came to mind. She started leasing him and the improvements were overwhelming. This past fall Reagan was given the surprise of her life when she came to the barn to find Rigley in his stall with a red ribbon saying “hug me I am yours”. Congratulations to Reagan and the entire family, I look forward to years of coaching you and Rigley!

Now when Reagan moved on to the next level of horse she left behind one amazing pony. Awake and Dreaming or Rose as we called her was a large Morgan pony that had no lack of personality or skill. Its a tough transition for any kid to give up their pony and best friend but its not so bad when you know your pony is going to the best possible home! Ella (another one of my students) is the new and proud owner of Rose. Already she is jumping higher, riding better, and more attatched than you could imagine. Ella spent the final summer days last year laying out in the pasture with Rose and riding when ever it was possible. Ella and Rose are looking to move up levels in thier pony club and at the same time maybe hit some more jumping shows (Ella and Roses prefference). I really look forward to helping these two out in the future…

Jorge Verswyvel

Jorge Verswyvel

I met Jorge at Anderson Ranch last summer and recently spent a week riding with him in Monterrey Mexico.  Jorge started riding at a young age and was in the Grand Prix’s by the age of 22. Career highlights include two gold medals at the Continental Championships (individual, team Mexico) and showing across the world in places like, Aachen, Spruce Meadows, ext.

I received a few questions from readers and here are his answers. His favourite mount over the years was a Mexican Warm-blood mare named Adventure. “Her personality was unbeatable, she was a real competitor” were Jorge’s words about Adventure. Someone asked about his training and conditioning plans for the competitive horses. They work everyday except Monday’s and get jumped normally two times a week. He only jumps small fences for the most part and lots of gymnastic lines focusing on the little details and perfection. What was his favourite memory from shows? Meeting his wife Glady at a show in Mexico, “our eyes just met and that was it” said Glady and Jorge nodded his head agreeing with his  wife’s comment.

Jorge spends his days showing his string of young talented horses based out of Monterrey Mexico. He has his own brand of saddles, bridles, and girths that are great quality at reasonable costs. Stay tuned for future information about his line of tack products coming soon to Equestrianplanet.com.

Mexico Update: Monday Was A Fun Day!

Mexico Update: Monday Was A Fun Day!

Sunday and Monday were awesome days in the saddle. I have been jumping 4 horses a day all in private lessons, I have said it before and I will say it again clinics are the greatest tools. If you ever get a chance to ride in a five or six day clinic with a quality trainer then do it. The last two days have been a mix between young horses and well schooled grand prix horses. Each day we have done a different exercise but kept it the same for all the horses. So I have really been able to get every lesson through my head and do it over and over agian. I do not think I have ever jumped this many fences in a week, but I have seen a huge difference in my jumping posistion and the theory behind what happens before and after the jumps. I have also been schooling with plenty of height and let me tell you his horses all jump spectaclur with a ton of balance and scope. The afternoons have still been devoted to the pool and working on changing my pasty white Alberta skin into a tan. Sunday we went to the golf club for a late lunch, the course is right beside the house and its absolutley beautiful. Its 18 holes up and down the mountain side and looks to be very dificult. Monday we had a late dinner in a very nice mall next to the cities univeristy, it was a sushi restaurant and they had the best shrimp i have ever tasted. I only have one more day of lessons then Wedensday is a travel day, I am excited to get home only because I miss my horses and want to ride them with Jorge´s philosophy. Again pics and video are on the way when I get home. Good night from Mexico.

Cant beat riding in the heat!

Cant beat riding in the heat!

Some times in life random and spontaneous events work out for the best. Last summer I met an Olympic rider Joerge Verswyvel from Mexico. We competed together in the nations cup competition at Anderson Ranch. Through out the year we kept in touch and early last week he invited me to come down and have a clinic on his horses.
