The Mane Event (Red Deer)

I took part in the jumping part of this event a few years ago riding with Frank Madden, let me tell you the weekend was a fantastic experience. This year I plan on bringing some of my students to just watch and learn by auditing the clinics. If you plan on making the trip to Red Deer this year here is what I recommend.

Greg Best: Greg is an Olympic Medalist and is giving his first clinic in Canada. Friday night (April 29) at 7:15 pm he will be giving a lesson based on jumping equitation. Saturday morning will be starting young horses over fences (10:15 am) and in the afternoon part 1 of his advance jumping lessons (6:30 pm). His part concludes on Sunday morning as part 2 of advanced jumping takes place with a start time of 10 am.

Dr. Cesar Parra: He has been on the international dressage scene since 1995, and continues to ride with the best possible trainers giving him tons of knowledge to pass along.  His times are Friday: 5:45 Saturday: 11:45 Sunday: 2:45. Saturday and Sunday focus on half halts and getting your horse of the leg two sessions I will not be missing.

Remember that Saturday night at 8pm you need to catch the “Equine Experience” a showcase and presentation of many breeds, sports, and demos. Its a great show and seating is limited so get to the UFA arena early to gaurantee your seat. I will be blogging from this years mane event, and I hope to see you there!

The Future of Show Jumping

Time and time again Rocky Mountain Show Jumping manages to impress me with what they are doing for the sport both here in Alberta and across North America.

This video, which is a preview for the soon to be launched RMSJ TV is another piece of proof that Anderson Ranch has focused on the right areas and will continue to grow this sport by promoting the future and the youth in Show Jumping.  Well done!

Merry Christmas!

Merry Christmas!

Its that time of the year again! Make sure that you get out to the barn and give your horse a bag of Christmas treats! I would like to say a big thank you again to all of my students and their families for a great year. Merry Christmas and happy new year. I look forward to working with you all in 2011! Last night I hosted a Christmas party at my house in Olds Alberta, 46 people showed up and we had a lovely evening full of good conversation. It was the first time that all of my students really had a chance to be in the same room as they all ride on different days of the week. The night included a potluck and a Chinese gift exchange. I had a great night and I hope that everyone who attended did as well.

Nothing Beats Alberta Weather!

Nothing Beats Alberta Weather!

So you will never hear anybody brag about the weather in Alberta! Its unpredictable and its constantly changing! So living in Alberta all of my life there is one thing that I have learned, and that’s to seize the day. If you’re given a good day, then you better get outside and enjoy it. There are a few horse related moments that I remember when it comes to Alberta weather and I thought it would share them with you. Plus I needed an article to go with these great pictures!
